Snake for newbie?

I'm just getting started with reptiles and I'm interested in snakes.  I was curious as to what is the best breed for beginners?  I really like the smaller snakes, definitely not a large snake.  What would be good for me to start with?

Starting snake in my opinion would be a corn snake. What have you heard?
