Hello, my name is MeredithLovesFrogs. Today I lost my first tree frog (White Dumpy Tree Frog) I ever purchased to Red-Leg. I didn’t have a Vet tell me because I don’t have one that lives near by however I did research through the Internet and my tree frog books. I have several questions that are imperative to the survival of my other remaining tree frogs.
Upon finding out that Stephen (the Tree Frog that died to day) had red leg I did a mass clean out of every tank. By cleaning I mean taking all the frogs out (Stephen on his last days was held in my regular 10 gallon cricket tank that was througouly cleaned with hot water and wiped down and the put paper towels and branches and a water bowel (which by the way has ALL been thrown away!). I sat all the tank furniture under EXTREMLY hot water and wiped the 65 gallon down with hot water (using paper towels).
I then placed Stephen and Geronimo (started not eating and was having nasty poop) in the 20 gallon tank that I keep (which was cleaned THROUGHOULY every day with hot water (the frogs were of course placed in a plastic container).
Stephen proceeded to get worse so that’s when I placed him in the tank that I commonly use for crickets (which was cleaned thoroughly hot water and wiped down.) Gerinmo continued to stay in the 20 gallon by himself.
I then gave all my white dumpy tree frogs triple antibiotic ointment (not a lot) and they have been doing fair since.
I need to know how to make my tank temperature more than 71 degrees. My frogs have a tank light heater but that doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.
I have used fake vines from Wal-Mart (which were cleaned with hot water and wiped down) however I through them away upon learning of Stephen’s red leg, do I need to purchase more fake plants?
Do I need to throw away all the tank furniture that Stephen came into contact with (I constantly wash them in EXTREMLY hot water including all the water bowls)?
