Stockton Woman Forced To Give Up Her Pet Snake

(CBS13) STOCKTON To one local woman this snake is a precious pet. But now the city says she's not allowed to have it even inside her own home.

Her name is Buttercup because she has this sweet smile and she has rosy cheeks.

The city of Stockton considers snakes an exotic or wild animal and bans them from being kept as pets in city limits.

Code calls a wild animal "any animal which is not naturally tame or gentle, but is of wild nature and disposition and which must be kept in confinement."

If she doesn't find a home for the snake animal control says they will cite her, and could place her in a zoo or sanctuary.
