« on: January 15, 2007, 12:13:03 AM »

the other day i moved my viv in to the front room so i got my CWDs out before the move and noticed tht kiwi had somert handing his vent all pink and bloody Undecided so we took him to the vets and they took him away and rang us later with the diagnosis

he said it was his 'penis' which was it thing tht looked like STRING and the lumpy bit at the base was the (i quote) his 'sheath' i know how funny is a vet sayin tht but anyway they had to be removed so in short my drag cannot have babies  Cry which we are a bit sad about but he is bak to normal self which is the main thing

Did the vet happen to tell you why it had to be removed. usually they can do a surgery and place a stitch or 2 and it doesnt happen again? unless there was an infection maybe.

Ok I understand now. Basically in case you didnt know or others didnt know, its called a prolapse.
IF you notice it immeadiatley, in case this ever happens to anyone. the best thing to do is start a bath with some warm sugar water to hold that area in. the sugar water helps try to get it in.. if it doesnt go in you put vasiline on so it dont dry out and try to get a vet.. the vasiline will last to the next day at least so you can get the vet

I mostly posted for future reference as it will work with most lizards. Smiley

Hello,
Just wondering how your dragon was doing after his surgery, any signs of infection?
Please keep us posted on how he is doing.  You do have him on a solid substrate, correct, to keep anything from coming into contact with his hind end?  Just checking....  I hope he is healing up well for you, poor baby.
