It is just something that is done. I get an attractive beardie with or without color. I love the different colors and try to duplicate them as best I can with also trying to add a bit of size. Most of my breeders are 18" plus so I try to stay with that as a minimum for size. I am trying to produce healthy, large and colorful dragons. We do it because they are beautiful.

Here's a pic of my stacks of cages I use for my dragons. Each enclosure is 4'longx2'widex2'Tall, made of white malimine with sliding glass doors and all electrical wired into one plug.

Yes, ok, but do you see my point ? My point is that the dragons don't gain from being "beautiful" it's purely an entertainment thing for the keeper, they enjoy looking at attractive dragons.

Herps are not here for our entertainment. Encouraging genetic mutations is wrong.

The only thing you forget is where you are you have wild dragons that you can add for genetic variety, here in northamerican bearded dragons have a very small gene pool and most of the dragons here where breed from only a few individuals. If Australia would allow export of animals to other countries again (which they stopped doing in 1960 except for zoos) then breeding for colour wouldent be such a big deal. I personally like coloured dragons and like lizardlady I keep my genepool as veried as possible. My animals don't lose anything by being colourful and are happy and healthy, "PETS".
