Questions
« on: December 23, 2006, 09:51:33 PM »

Hi!
I will ask some questions here.
Firstly, sorry for my poor English,I am good at reading, but I am not good  at writing(though I have learned English for 12 years in China). So thank you when you have patience reading my posts.
1.What field book you use to identify an unknown species? What other good publications about reptiles you have known?
2.I will go to university next year and want to study biology and herpetology.Could you tell me what course I should learn and I can learn if I choose herpetology as my major?
3.How can I post pictures here?
Thank you
Merry Christmas and have a good day!

I can help you with question #2.  Most universities in the states do not offer a herpetology major.  Instead, students major in wildlife biology or zoology and take a herpetology class.  The general education you will receive with either of these degrees is very good.  After graduation, you can find a suitable graduate program and then you will specialize in herpetology.  This is the most common way to study herpetology through the university.  Of course, you can always get hands-on experience and some programs are aligned with local zoos.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Sorry, I forgot to address the courses to take BEFORE you get to the university.  Always take as much math and science as you can.  Biology is good, anatomy and physiology is a plus.  As for math, you probably won't be required to take much more than algebra or trigonometry at the college level.  The major courses you'll be taking in college are pretty foundational themselves, but if you are well-grounded in the vocabulary of biology, anatomy, physiology, and a little chemistry, it will help you tremendously.

for posting pictures - i find the best way is to register on www.photobucket.com and upload pictures there - once you have done that you can copy and paste the Img url onto this forum and it will produce your image so long as it remains on the nominated photobucket img tag.
