My tarantula introduction.
« on: December 20, 2006, 02:20:01 PM »

Hello all invert keepers! I've taken a step out of the hermit crab  world and I am going to try tarantulas too. I honestly don't know what inspired me to get one, but I decided a while back that I wanted one. I have spent weeks researching their care. I went to the store and bought G. Rosera. It's a start! I have held it on my own after moving it when I got home, and the first thing I noticed is that it really is docile. I haven't perfected the tank yet, I still need a light so the tank is a little cold (the uth fortunatley is keeping it acceptable, and if she finds it too hot she can move to the other side). The person said it is a female, which I believe, she said she had some and I think she knew what she was doing. I won't feed it until friday, she said it was just fed. Other than that, that's about it on the tarantula herself. I named her fuzzy.

Here is a picture.

Also, I would like some feedback on my setup

It is big, but the ten gallons were the only ones with a secure screen lid. If the tank is too big, I could easily divide it in half with some plexiglass. If the area looks jumbled, it is because the tank was on the floor when I took the picture, also the light there was borrowed from my hermit crabs to warm up the tank. The reason I didn't get a light was because they didn't have any good ones.

So that about sums it up. What do you guys think? Also how old would you guess she is? She is I think about three inches long.
