Also make sure they are legal to keep where you live, they have been banned in several states and im sure more will be added. A red tail boa would be a much better choice IMO, they get a big size but not to big.

If you have done your research and are confident that you can provide the care needed then go for it. Smiley

A lot of people do get burms then down the line want rid due to their size. I get really frustrated with the number of burms you see on, on line classified sites. Its not just burms you see iguanas is another that people buy when small.

I have wanted a burm for a while now and keep getting really tempted by an albino burm in one of my local reptile shops. But I won't be getting one until I live in a house where I can accommodate it as it approaches adult size.

It is well known that generally these animals eventually end up dying from neglect than anything else.

i know there a thread on another forum I use where a member has just rescued three burms. One had to be put to sleep it was in such a bad state. The female albino had been power fed so he could breed her and the green burm which was the same age as the albino was half her size and really skinny.

I wish people would think before they buy. But unfortunatley there are just too many idoits out there

I think breeding of this species should be stoper for 5-10 years.

Oooo that would turn into a debate but I would love to see some legislation like that.

I know but something has to be done to stop idoits buying reps that grow to such a size then wanting to get rid. Maybe a license to own anything that grows over 12 foot or make the breeders and pet shop owners more responsible if something cos wrong. Tortises and some other cites listed reptiles are micro chipped it would not be that hard to introduce something similar to the larger snakes such as burms, retics, rock pythons and anacondas.

Just a thought
