Exo terra cages
« on: December 08, 2006, 08:26:01 AM »

I recently purchased my first exo terra cage and love it . I have always wanted one but they are expensive , this one was on sale so I had to buy it because if I didnt, I would kick myself later on. They work great for aboreal lizards and I highly reccomend them if you can afford them. The smallest size is usaully $50.00 and of course the price goes up the bigger the size.

What size was it? they have a new huge one thats 24x18x24(lxwxh) i think Tongue lol the only thing i dont like about them is that crickets can get behind that foam backround and can get on top ofit and the lizard cant reach them Sad

I think mine is 19x19x12 or something like that. Never had any problems with the crickets getting behing the rock wall.

Just be careful that you don't melt the foam with your heat lamp, or melt the plastic divider in the middle of the screen.   I know a few ppl who had such problems, I'd never touch one of those.

Thanks for the warning, I was worried about that at first but have been using that light on it ever since I got it without any problems. Its only a 50 watt.

I personally found my exo-terra tank great for my juvenile cham.  But they are not very conventional when they get older so an upgrade was a must.

It's true about the crix though.... and I did find that after the upgrade it was very handy to breed crix in.

I want to get a bearded dragon and need info on what kind of cage and setup I should get, like lights that have UVB, if i should get sand or another kind of substrate. how big the enclosure should be? I was thinking of getting a reptamansion from reptapets. they got the details about the cage on their website. if I got that kind of cage would I need to buy some more stuff?

am I allowed to post links from other websites?

well I'm not sure if its got lights and stuff.

well I would appreciate if people with bearded dragons could tell me what kind of setup they have so I can  get more of an idea of How to set it up. also if people could direct me where are good places to buy within sydney, australia that would be great.

You need a minimum of 3ft x 18" x 18".  I have a 4x2x2ft tank for my female, but if young, this may induce stress on the smaller beardie.  You need to provide something for it to climb on and provide a heat spot of 95f with a gradient of 80-90f.  You need both UVA and UVB lighting on a 12 hour cycle.

Use newspaper as substrate to start (to monitor those stools for parasites) and move onto something else like playsand (no debate here pls people!!!  Cheesy ) when it gets older and not so much of a sloppy hunter.

Supplement with calcium and/or vitamins whilst it grows up and gut load your crickets/locusts with catfood.  It's a good way to get the required nutrients into your Beardie.

Hope this helps.
