Nice hermits Smiley, I use to keep them in the past, cool little pets Cool. Apparently since I kept them last, their care has changed alot and is much more involved then before Huh.

Yeah, crabs are alot harder to keep nowadays, but I've managed to give good enough care.

I had to move suddenly about a year ago and had to give my crab set up away. I had a 180gal tank with about twenty hermit crabs. Of course I had seperate moulting tanks as well (VERY IMPORTANT!) I would put three 50 pound bags of sand at the bottom of the tank and decorate with colored caci-sand and palm trees. I also made them a second level too. I am trying to purchase a townhome right now and WILL get another set up like the last. If you have any questions about anything hermit crab related ask me. I can help.

Below in my signature is a link to my Yahoo Photo album. That is where I have pictures of our hermies and some of the tank setups that we have done.

There has been a lot of studying done and checking into their natural environment and so more knowledge has been learned about proper care of the hermies and what will help benefit them.  Some purple pinchers have been known to live 7 to 10 years in a persons care and not have the environment that is recommended for them. It just depends on how tough they are and the actual house environment that they live in.

It does take a bit of work getting the tank set up like it needs to be for them to live long and healthy lives. But once you get it done and get to watch them be active and go about their business, they are quite interesting and very relaxing to watch and sometimes funny too.

Some crabs are REALLY CUTE! Cheesy Es are very  cute. I think either Es are Straws are my favorite species. Straws are so beautiful! If you DO get hermies, you should ask for some care info or at least some links to some great care sheets.
